How plainmoney makes money
The straight answer
Today, it doesn’t. No ads, no affiliates, no sponsors — one person pays the hosting. If that ever changes, it gets listed on this page the day it starts, and money will only ever buy labelled space, never words.
Right now
No ads. No affiliate links. No sponsorships. No paid placements. Nobody pays to appear on this site, and I pay for the hosting myself. Every recommendation-shaped sentence you read here is unpaid — which is why the site mostly avoids recommendation-shaped sentences altogether.
What might fund it later
plainmoney costs real money and real mornings. To keep it free, three things might appear one day:
- Clearly-labelled advertising on article pages (guides, briefs) — never inside the calculators or tools, which stay clean. Ads would be marked as ads; they buy space, not words.
- Newsletter sponsorship — a single labelled sponsor slot in the daily email, marked “Sponsored”, with no influence on what the brief says.
- Referral links with disclosure at the point of use — if this site ever links to a product or service that pays a commission, the commission will be disclosed right next to the link, in plain sight, every time. If a page carries no disclosure, it carries no commercial links.
The rule: each one clearly labelled — and logged on this page the day it appears.
The lines we won’t cross
- No paid rankings. Nothing on this site will ever be ordered, scored or starred because someone paid for position.
- No selling your data. It isn’t harvested in the first place — see the privacy policy.
- No pay-to-say. Sponsors and advertisers get labelled space, never editorial words. The brief says what the data says.
- No product pushing in tools. The calculators exist to answer your question, not to funnel you to a lender.
- No predictions for clicks. This site never predicts prices or returns — not for traffic, not for anyone.
If a change ever conflicts with these rules, the change loses. You trusting the numbers is the product — there’s no version of this site worth having that trades that away.
