plainmoney is built to be useful without harvesting your personal information. This policy explains, in plain English, the small amount of data we do handle, why, and how you can control it.
If you sign up for the daily brief, we collect your email address. We use it for one thing only: to send you the brief. We do not sell, rent or share your email address, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
Our newsletter is delivered through Buttondown, an email service provider. When you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Buttondown on our behalf so the emails can be sent. We'd encourage you to read Buttondown's own privacy policy to understand how they handle data.
Our calculators — stamp duty, mortgage, income tax, borrowing power and compound interest — run entirely in your own browser. The numbers you type in are never sent to us or to anyone else. To save you re-typing them next time, your inputs are stored in your own device's local storage, which only your browser can read. Clearing your browser data removes them. Nothing about your calculations ever leaves your device.
We plan to show ads on plainmoney through Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads that may be more relevant to you. You can read more in Google's advertising policies, and you can opt out of personalised advertising at any time through your Google Ad Settings.
Beyond the items above, we do not run any other tracking on the site at this time. If that changes, we'll update this policy.
We aim to handle personal information in good-faith compliance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. We collect only what we need, use it only for the purpose you gave it to us, and keep it no longer than necessary.
You can ask us to access, correct or delete any personal information we hold about you — in practice, that's your newsletter email address. The fastest way is simply to unsubscribe using the link in any email, but you can also reach us via our contact page and we'll action your request.
If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above and post the revised policy here.
